It doesn't matter how many "pirates would never have bought it to begin with" stories you spin up because the fact is. It's still around because it does exactly what they want (protect early days of sales from any other option) Trust me the devs bean counters have done the numbers and compared releases over many years and trust that they know what they are doing more than a bunch of internet pirates. That or they just removed it themselves for a number of reasons.ĭenuvo is still here and it's sticking around because all in all it does exactly what the devs really cared about. Look back at some of the biggest releases that either had denuvo from recent times and you'll see many either had the devs accidentally drop a non protected exe or similar.

Heck I think we've seen more games hit the high seas only after the devs removed denuvo vs the games that have actually been cracked as of late.
So yes piracy is still here but they never intended to kill it completely just delay it sufficiently enough that majority of would be buyers have done so and by the time the game is cracked they could really care less. Look at how popular twitch is as an example and how it influences what people play.īy using things like denuvo they've been able to convert any and all that they could (yes they are aware some pirates will just go without forever and they don't even consider you in their equation) for them it's all about the ones (myself and my friends included) who have used piracy in the past almost instinctivly but who are more than capable of buying the game when we have no other option. They never really cared about pirates playing their games (after all if they are wanting to play them they must like them and they'll likley still spread their good experiences all the same) but what they did care about was the ability to convert any and all (however small) people who may have pirated the game if given then chance but will "just go ahead and buy it" when they realize it could be months before they get to play it.įor many games are a social thing that they want to be a part of a conversation about and when you don't play the game til years after it's release you miss your chance to do so. Piracy's best days are long behind it and yes the anti piracy side won.
When you come from days when almost every games was cracked day or or even day zero (I don't know how many games I played before their street date because they were cracked early) these days are basically like post apocalypse.
